My friend writes to me in an email:
I thought you might like this for Mother of Exiles. It's a combination of a reading of Emma Lazarus' "The New Colossus", and does a segue into the aria "The Lady Of The Harbor" for the ending part of the poem. The aria was composed by American composer Lee Hoiby, who unfortunately is no longer with us as of March. Hoiby was a disciple of immigrant composer Gian Carlo Menotti. Like Menotti, his works championed lyricism during a time when such compositions were deemed old fashioned and irrelevant to modern society. Hoiby wrote Last Letter Home in 2006 to the words of U.S. PFC Jesse Givens, who died in an accident while serving in Iraq.
